Two years ago, WhatsApp has implemented a new footer “WhatsApp from Facebook” in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.19.331 update, to help people understand that WhatsApp was a Facebook product.
After introducing the new footer in the WhatsApp Messenger beta for iOS 2.21.220.14 update, WhatsApp is applying the same changes in the newest Android beta update today, renaming “Facebook” to “Meta” in the splash screen:
It’s not a surprise: Will Cathcart has confirmed on Twitter that they would have updated the new name to reflect the change, within WhatsApp and their website, and the update is available today.
Note that WhatsApp has also removed the “WhatsApp from Facebook” footer within WhatsApp Settings: they did the same on the recent iOS build.
This beta also fixes the issue where it was possible to view reactions. Seen that the possibility to send reactions is under development, showing the reaction interface was a bug and it has been fixed today.
