There are many indications that Apple will launch its third-generation AirPods headphones some time in the next few months, possibly at a spring press event in March or April.
The latest news is that images have been leaked by the site 52audio (via MacRumors) that allegedly show what the wireless headphones and their charging case look like.
Compared to the current model, the ‘stems’ are shorter, while new silicone ear tips are added.
The case, too, has been redesigned. It seems to adopt the horizontal design of the AirPods Pro, with the hinge along the long side, rather than the short side as on the second-gen AirPods.
Some features that previously only existed in the more expensive AirPods Pro models are likely to appear in the third-gen AirPods, but don’t count on support for transparency and active noise cancellation.
The price will probably be on a par with the second-gen AirPods (find lowest current prices in our guide to the best AirPods deals), although as ever there is the question of currency conversion and ‘Rip-off Britain’. How will those prices translate on this side of the Atlantic? Only time will tell.
Catch the latest rumours in our new AirPods news hub. We think there are a number of indications that AirPods 3 will launch on 23 March.
