This Mobile App Is Taking The $1.7 Trillion Fashion Industry By Storm

SAP

What does innovation look like in the digital age? If you ask Alicia Tillman, CMO for enterprise software company SAP, her answer might surprise you.

Tillman was recently interviewed by Cheddar TV during this year’s New York Fashion Week (NYFW). Not only was SAP an official technology partner of NYFW, the company also unveiled a “first of its kind for the fashion industry” Badgley Mischka Runway mobile app that allowed audience members to interact with the collection as it debuts down the runway.

“This is the first time designers can get real-time feedback on their runway fashions,” said Tillman.

The Badgley Mischka Runway app features exclusive details of each look in the Badgley Mischka Fall 2018 collection and each model's name. Using the app's "like" and "love" functions, attendees had the opportunity to provide real-time feedback that Badgley Mischka will use for future design and production decisions.

The app was built using SAP Cloud Platform SDK for iOS, which was developed by Apple and SAP. The app also uses the SAP Fiori user experience and SAP Leonardo Internet of Things capabilities.

"Fashion is a fast-paced industry — not just during Fashion Week, but year-round," said Mark Badgley, Badgley Mischka, in a recent press release. "Through our work with SAP at New York Fashion Week, we are excited to be receiving real-time insights about our collection from industry insiders and consumers, which will ultimately help us bring these looks to market."

The app also gives SAP an opportunity to showcase its tech prowess beyond the back office, which the company its traditionally known for. Considering the fashion industry is worth some $1.75 trillion, not a bad place to be.
