If you want to own an original check signed by Steve Jobs (unfortunately cashed!), you’ll have an opportunity this week when a 1988 check for $2,000 goes up for auction.

The Bank of America check was given to Jobs’ girlfriend Tina Redse on March 11, 1988. It is signed “steven jobs” on the signature line. Bidding starts at a mere $20,000.

The Steve Jobs check recipient

Tina Redse met Steve Jobs in the early 1980s, and dated her until meeting his wife Laurene Powell Jobs. According to Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs biography, Redse accompanied Jobs to the Super Bowl where the iconic Macintosh commercial screened, and later travelled to Europe with Steve when he was being squeezed out of Apple.

Ultimately, they dated for four years, having an off-and-on relationship in which she lived part of the time in Jobs’ sparsely decorated Woodside home. Their relationship eventually ended in 1989, although they discussed the possibility of getting married — and Redse reportedly turned down a marriage proposal from Jobs.

If you’re interested in bidding on the check, you can find out more details about it here. In addition to Jobs’ signature, the check also includes his phone number and address. The auction is organized by Nate D. Sanders Auctions, an industry leader in auctioned documents and autographs. You can place bids online. A great (if pricy!) opportunity to own a rare Steve Jobs autograph.
