Apple recently released a hugely important iOS upgrade that brings updated features, such as new a new Pride Celebration wallpaper, along with fixing numerous bugs including some that may have been actively exploited. It’s important that all iPhone users consider hitting the install button as soon as possible to keep their devices safe. However, it appears that some who have already added iOS 16.5 to their devices are now suffering from faster battery drain.

A quick search on social media reveals plenty of Apple fans are having issues with one iPhone user, called Lucas, saying: “I thought it was just on my iPhone. iOS 16.5 battery drainage is even worse.”

And another named Mark asking: “Any idea why iOS 16.5 is absolutely decimating the battery on my iPhone 12 Pro? It seems much much worse than it did on 16.4.1 - I’d rarely get to 50% at the end of the day.”

With battery life such an important feature of phones this may have some worried about installing iOS 16.5 but with it fixing those worrying security issues it’s not an update that should be ignored.

Luckily, the battery life issue should be simple to fix. Just put up with it for a few days and the device should sort itself out.

When Apple pushes out major iOS updates, iPhones sometimes need to re-index data. This all happens in the background and can subsequently lead to battery life dropping.

Unlike some rivals, Apple insists these complicated processes are carried out on the phone because it does not want the privacy implications associated with sending the data to the cloud.

The whole process can take a couple of days and once completed the iPhone should return to normal strength.

Of course, if there is a bug in iOS 16.5 that’s actually causing battery drain then expect Apple to act fast and push out a further upgrade in the coming weeks.

Just be patient and things should return to normal.
