Big Starry Sur

Apple’s Big Sur meets Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

Introducing Big Starry Sur, inspired by the macOS 11 Big Sur wallpaper, redone the style of Vincent Van Gogh's famous 1889 painting Starry Night.

I generated this image a while back using the AI image generator Midjourney. I ran several prompts a couple of dozen times using various variations of the phrase "Big Sur" and "Starry Night" before narrowing it down to an image I wanted & remastering it further to refine the generation. From there, I began using ML-upscaling, sharpening and making other edits to produce the final product.

I have actually been sitting on this photo for quite a while, but I had convinced myself that the reception would be so lukewarm that the image didn't merit posting. On a lark, I posted the image online on March 11, never intending it to develop into a wallpaper. The reception became so overwhelmingly positive that I scrambled to edit the image further for posting later that afternoon. That wallpaper became such a hit that within hours I began receiving dozens of messages that my host (Google) had shut down access due to the high demand. Obviously pissed off as I pay a lot of money for hosting, I'm posting the image on my blog in the hopes of a more stable host & so that the wallpaper is discoverable now and into the future.

Big Starry Sur is available for the iPad, Mac, & iPhone. Enjoy!
