Some folks insist people never change, others say they often do. And proof of the latter shows up in today’s featured Mac Studio computer setup featuring Apple’s magnificent 6K Pro Display XDR.
It belongs to a Linux-loving software programmer who used to be strongly anti-Apple, according to her husband.

Linux-loving programmer falls for Mac Studio and Pro Display XDR
Redditor MutedStudy1881 (“Mute”) showcased the setup his wife recently finished putting together in a post entitled, “My wife’s workspace, featuring the XDR display.”
No word yet on how his wife feels about him posting on social media about her gear. A commenter said, “Impressive. Very nice. Let’s see the husband’s setup.”
When asked what his wife did for work, Mute replied, “Software, laptop is for work and Mac Studio is for personal stuff. I just find her office ridiculous since 2 years ago she was super anti-Apple and swore by Linux.”
“What made her change her mind?” a commenter asked.
“The first M1 MacBook, mostly because it was the first laptop in history to not get super hot and burn your lap,” Mute replied.
“The M1 was a game changer,” the commenter said, to which another person added, “M chips are 100% a game-changer!”
Mute also mentioned his wife uses the Meta/Oculus Quest VR headset to do “some VR development on the side for personal projects, you can use Unity with a Quest Pro on macOS.”
Pro Display XDR, up close and personal
A commenter noticed the Pro Display XDR, Apple’s $6,000 6K display — with a staggering 6016 x 3384 pixel resolution — seemed awfully close to the front of the desk, so the user must sit quite close to the screen.
“Yeah,” Mute said. “That’s why she likes the monitor arm, lets her bring it close to her face.” She uses an Ergotron monitor arm, he said, and there’s plenty of room for maneuverability.
Naturally, someone asked if she hates the Pro Display Webcam. Cupertino has a bad rep for display webcams.
“It‘s 200 bucks and the image is horrible,” they said. “I tried using my iPhone as webcam with Ventura and it‘s night and day. Image is bad, autofocus is crap and constantly tries to refocus … balance is crap. I want a better webcam for the Pro Display.”
“She said it worked fine, never raved about it or anything though. But yeah I also wish there was a better option,” Mute replied.
Request: What are some good desktop speakers?
“Suggestion for the speakers?” Mute asked, after a commenter noted the setup could use better ones. “She wants some cooler ones, too, but doesn’t use them that often.”
Currently, a set of Bose Companion 2 Series III Multimedia Speakers sits under the display.
