AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D gets new gaming benchmarks

An update to AMD’s previous claims, adding more data.

This is not the first time we have seen first-party benchmarks from AMD. The company had already shared a few benchmark results comparing AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D to Core i9-13900K or Ryzen 7 5800X3D, demonstrating either up to 24% or 30% performance uplift respectively. However, those cherry-picked and inflated numbers were not a good representation of the average result gamers should expect.

There is another set of AMD’s own benchmarks, shared as part of the 7800X3D review kit. This is still a first-party benchmark, so nothing even remotely comparable to independent testing, yet this is the best thing we have before those tests are published.

It shows Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Core i9-13900K in head-to-head comparison in gaming. This time the claim is that the highest performance gain is 30% in a game like Horizon Zero Dawn, but the average figure is now much lower. A number that we got from 21 games tested at 1080p resolution with high settings is 6.9%. Just bear in mind that each title presented here is with ‘up to’ numbers so that the average could be even lower.

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the latest Raphael CPU to launch with 3D V-Cache. This 8-core CPU is to feature 104MB of combined L2 and L3 cache, more than twice as much as the 7700X 8-core CPU (40MB). Based on the early review benchmarks that we saw, the 7800X3D will be slower in synthetic benchmarks like Cinebnech R23, but it will undoubtedly be better in gaming.

The only concern with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is its price. The processor officially launches on April 6th at $449, so $110 more than the Ryzen 7 7700X. This is nearly the cost of 32GB DDR5-6000 memory kit.
