One UI 5.1 is destroying the battery life on some Galaxy phones

We have all been very impressed with the speed at which Samsung has released the One UI 5.1. The update started rolling out last week and Samsung's One UI 5.1 release roadmap shows that it's going to be done by early next month.

It's common for users to experience some bugs when an update is rushed out so quickly. That seems to be happening with One UI 5.1 for some users, particularly those with Galaxy S22 series devices. One UI 5.1 is crushing the battery life on these phones.

Maybe don't update your phone to One UI 5.1 just yet

There have been multiple reports on Samsung's official forums and other communities like Reddit about a significant decline in battery life once these devices were updated to One UI 5.1. Several of our readers have reached out to us and reported similar issues that appear to impact Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 devices. A reader also mentions that their device is heating up quite a bit more as a result of this.

It's not entirely clear what's causing the battery life drain on these devices. There's no doubt that One UI 5.1 is causing this, since the devices were fine before they were updated. Someone on Reddit pointed out that Samsung Keyboard's battery usage has skyrocketed after the One UI 5.1. Perhaps that might be the root cause of this issue. Samsung's live chat support, which often leaves a lot to be desired, suggests clearing the cache and data for Samsung Keyboard and restarting the device.

Keep in mind that this will erase any custom languages or layouts that you have set up. You could simply switch to another keyboard to see if that does the trick. Samsung hasn't acknowledged the bug at this point in time but it's hard to believe that the company doesn't know about it and isn't already working to fix it.

Have you experienced increased battery drain on your Samsung device, particularly a Galaxy S22 model, after updating it to One UI 5.1? Let us know in the comments below.

    Thanks, Adam!

Galaxy S22-series users can buy the new S24 flagship a lot cheaper

As you probably know by now, your Galaxy S22-series phone is going to miss out on Samsung's Galaxy AI features. Even though the chipset powering your device is technically capable of Galaxy AI, as proven by the S23 FE, Samsung won't update phones older than 2023 with AI capabilities.
