MESSAGES WITH YOURSELF

After releasing the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.24.2 update, WhatsApp is now launching a minor test by rolling out “messages with yourself” to some beta testers. In order to limit misinformation, it is needed to specify that it has always been possible to send messages to your own phone number, but it was needed to use click to WhatsApp to open it on WhatsApp for Android.
After updating to the latest update of the Android app, some beta testers noticed that WhatsApp is now highlighting that chat by adding “message yourself” as the chat caption:

Since some of you wondered what the changes are when sending messages to your own phone number after the update, this is the answer: nothing. WhatsApp is only highlighting the chat with your own phone number by using a different caption. We also would like to take advantage of this article to announce that some beta testers may also notice a better synchronization of messages within the chat with their own phone number since some time: if you send a message to the chat with your phone number, it will be always synced with your other linked devices since it is no longer an unsupported feature when using multi-device.

In addition, thanks to a future update of the Android app, the chat with your phone number will also be available within your contacts list on WhatsApp so it will be easier for users to reach their own chat if they still don’t have one in the chats list. At the moment, your phone number is not visible within your contacts list so it is needed to use click to WhatsApp to open it.

Note that, even if this screenshot is taken from WhatsApp beta for Android, WhatsApp is also highlighting the chat with your phone number by using the “message yourself” caption for some beta testers after installing the WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.23.0.70 update.

The chat with yourself is now highlighted by using a different caption for some beta testers and it is rolling out to more users over the coming days. About the ability to view your phone number within the contacts list, it will be available in a future update of the app.
