Microsoft has released the optional KB5006738 Preview cumulative update for Windows 10 2004, Windows 10 20H2, and Windows 10 21H1.
Microsoft says this update and a separate Windows Server preview update will fix all outstanding printing issues affecting users since they mitigated the PrintNightmare vulnerabilities.
The KB5006738 cumulative update is part of Microsoft's September 2021 monthly "C" update, allowing Windows users to test upcoming fixes before they are released as part of the upcoming November 2021 Patch Tuesday.
Unlike Patch Tuesday updates, the "C" preview updates are optional and do not include any security updates.
Windows users can install this update by going into Settings, clicking on Windows Update, and manually performing a 'Check for Updates.'
As this is an optional update, you will be asked whether you wish to install it by clicking on the 'Download and install' link, as shown in the image below.
Windows 10 users can also manually download and install the KB5006738 preview update from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
Fixes released for numerous printing issues
With the release of the Windows 10 KB5006670 update, users began experiencing numerous printing issues or problems installing new printers.
With today's update, Microsoft says they have fixed an issue that prevents the installation of printers over the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP).
Microsoft also claims to have fixed the following printing issues with a separate Windows Server KB5006745 preview update released today:
- Addresses a known issue that prevents an internet print server from properly packaging modified printer properties before sending the package to the client.
- Addresses a known issue that might prevent the successful installation of printers using the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP).
- Addresses a known issue that might ask for administrative credentials every time you attempt to print. This occurs in environments in which the print server and print client are in different times zones.

After installing this update, Windows 10 2004 will be updated to build 19041.1320, Windows 10 20H2 will be updated to build 19042.1320, and Windows 10 21H1 will be updated to build 19043.1320.

After these updates, I still can’t print from network printers. Tried rebooting all computers, still says can’t print.
I uninstalled this update, plus kb5006670 and now it’s printing again. Paused updates .

Well... that sucks..
Reinstalling the printers didn't help either? Here just one machine is not printing properly, gonna try KB5006738.

well guys I have NO printing problems whatsoever with the KB5006738 update for Win10 21H1/21H2 installed
ditto for the KB5006744 update for Win10 LTSC 2019 v1809 as I can also print stuff fine without issues there
oh, and I'm using HP ENVY printers (Envy 4500 and Envy photo 7800 series), both thru local USB and wifi network connections on Win10 LTSC 2019 and Win10 home 21H1 and Win10 Education 21H2.
what kind of printers are you using, Spud422 & NoneRain?

I was hopeful that KB5006738 would fix the issue created by the precious updates but no luck.
I have two shared printers connected to their respective machines and three other PCs that normally print to these printers. That all went sideways with Microsoft's efforts at security updates. Uninstalling KB5006738 and kb5006670 (and pausing updates) did not work. I removed all of the affected printers, enabled updates again and re-installed the printers.....local printing works (always did) but I cannot get networked PCs to print on the shared printers.
Waiting for the next Microsoft "Fix" to solve the problem unless someone has another bright idea??

@EeyorePooh: did you try restarting/rebooting your network routers and turning off then turning on your network printers?
sometimes restarting your network routers clear up the network printing problems

when I had some network print problems thru a Wifi/WLAN connection to my HP Envy Photo 7800 series printer from the laptop running Win10 21H1 w/ KB5006738 installed, I simply turn off then turn on the wifi signal directly on the HP envy printer and also restart/reboot the wireless network router and that seems to resolve the network printing problems. kinda had to reset the wifi connections from time to time from either the router or the printer (or even both)

I'm Using Printer Server But I Couldn't Find Relevant Update For Windows Server 2012 R2 For KB5006738 ?
