Ok, so I know you've heard of the Sims, but have you ever heard of Sim City? It is a game (this version is MS-DOS) where you have to create a town and take care of all services, including commercial, industrial, and residential services. You will also need Fire and Rescue and a Police Station of course. This is an old version of the game, but very fun in terms of disasters. You can destroy your housing projects by tornadoes, put industrial buildings on fire, and flood some commercial establishments. If you're looking for the current version of the game, this is not what you want. But if you like old games, you will love this game. Overall, this game is 4 stars for me because of how old it is and the replay value in it. It's really a fun game.

As noted by other reviewers, a different medieval graphics set ("skin") is loaded by default, but you can load the original classic graphics easily.

And, in contrast to other reviews, the save game works great! Likely the emulator has evolved/improved since these reviews.

Played this on the Amiga, Amazing game

My mouse is confined to the bottom-left quadrant of the emulator's screen due to synchronization issues between the OS and emulator mouse.

Feels like the emulator is grabbing the mouse's velocity directly from the OS and not performing any DPI/scale corrections to the value.

Yes it is SimCity, but by default loads with Medieval Times graphics, which is why the game looks different.

To get the SimCity we all know and love, goto "System" -> "Load Graphics" and Select "Classic Graphics" to get the SimCity Classic look. You can also choose other graphic sets as well.

Also the Anti-Piracy verification when you load a new city or scenario can be by passed just by pressing ENTER, it doesnt require any input or codes.

Only issue with this is that you cannot save games to the desktop, but people like me typically play SimCity for a while and usually never return to a city after I get bored of playing it for abotu 100-200 years.

To access the traditional SimCity load the game then go to SYSTEM,
then choose LOAD GRAPHICS then CLASSIC GRAPHICS then LOAD.

This is a modified version of SimCity with a medieval theme. Not worth playing!

8 times out of 10, the game loads right up. But every once in a while, it just won't get past the Dos Box loading screen.

Loved this game growing up and now I can just play in my browser :) no saving but I'll leave my pc on like usual.

Greg-Kennedy, whoever packed this game up and uploaded just left it on that Tileset by default. you just go to load graphics.. and pick Classic

I have tried this game and a couple others but the translation is haphazard at best. The mouse in was no where near the mouse out of game. Also with games like SimCity, it would be very difficult to play any meaningful game with out the ability to actually save your work.

To all the others having trouble, try this:
Use Firefox, after pressing the space bar to start the game, the "Fullscreen" button will be available. Go full screen and you'll see there's no mouse, press ESC and then click Fullscreen again and your mouse should be there and working properly.

AS far as graphics are concerned, go to the menu and load the "Classic" graphics and you'll see the familiar appearance.

I too am having issues with the cursor not aligning.

I really want to play this game!

I was happy to discover the DOS games being added (And Playable) through the Internet Archive and there are a few tricks to working with the emulator, however SimCity has a bug I could not manage. Though I tried repeatedly to align my cursor over the DOS cursor the two inevitably separated by a great distances making it impossible to operate this game. I will try again on another computer and perhaps that is the issue, but I would be curious to see if other users also encountered this issue.

The problem with the Internet Archive: if it's going to pretend to be a library, then it needs librarians. The recent dump of MS-DOS games just shows their dedication to posting whatever they can get their hands on, and let's see what sticks. Without a curator ensuring even the most basic quality control, the collections are flat out wrong.

Take this example - their hosted version of SimCity, an iconic game from 1989 with enormous cultural significance. Only it's not really SimCity... it's SimCity with a crack, and some kind of alternate tileset to put it into the 15th century - completely changing the game text, graphics, and other game elements.

It's matters because it's history. There are groups of people out there working on real preservation of software and titles: dumping and redumping items to verify correctness, checking boxes and manuals to get credits and titles right, spending exorbitant amounts on eBay for rare one-of-a-kind cartridges or disks just to save it from loss. Years of painstaking effort have been invested into this process.

Archive.org, as the visible frontrunner of digital preservation, should build on the work of those communities to continue the work already being done. Instead, they're doing it all wrong, and in that sense are serving as little more than MegaUpload with a veneer of altruism.
