On July 31, Microsoft celebrated the one year anniversary of Outlook.com, its new take on the web-based email service. The launch started with a public preview where anyone could try out the service meant to be a replacement for the older Hotmail service.
This week, Microsoft sent out emails to the people who were among the first to try out Outlook.com in its first weeks to give them a couple of gifts. One is a promo code for SkyDrive that gives them 3GB of extra free space on the cloud data storage service for a year. That means that those users get a total of 10 GB of free space on SkyDrive.
The other gift sent to Outlook.com early adopters is a code for Skype that offers one free month of Skype group video calling for up to 10 people. There is a limit of 100 hours for this free month with no more than 10 hours per day and a limit of 4 hours per session. Normally group video calling is part of Skype's premium subscription service.
Microsoft says that Outlook.com currently has 400 million accounts and it has added over 600 changes and improvements to the service since the public preview went live a year ago. Outlook.com dropped the preview label in February.
