Sweetcorn are easy to grow but be sure to plant them in blocks rather than rows. Best eaten fresh from the garden with butter and black pepper!
Set sweetcorn plants 35cm apart with 60cm between rows to form a block. Firm the area around the base of the plants well to help with stability from winds.
Protect from frost in the early part of the season with fleece or cloches and keep the area around your sweetcorn plants weed free.
Harvest as the tassels on the cobs begin to shrivel. Check they are ready by squeezing one cob with your thumb, if creamy liquid squirts out it’s not ripe so leave for a little longer.
