Apple, Facebook, Google and other tech heavyweights are reportedly heading for the White House on Wednesday. There they’ll meet with officials from various government agencies to discuss the COVID-19 outbreak.
Other big tech companies invited to send representatives include Amazon, Microsoft and Twitter, reports Fox Business. They’ll be meeting with officials from Health and Human Services, the National Institute of Health and the U.S. Labor Department, as well as others.
The companies and government reps will “discuss coordination efforts and information sharing between their industry and the U.S. government involving COVID-19,” according to Fox Business.
It’s not known who Apple will send to this meeting. It could be CEO TIm Cook, who has often gone to the White House, though usually to meet directly with President Trump.
Apple and big tech vs. COVID-19
Apple and the other Silicon Valley bigwigs are already fighting this epidemic in various ways. Apple let any employees in heavily-affected cities work from home this week if they want, and Cult of Mac learned the iPhone maker cancelled a March product launch event.
Google turned Google I/O 2020 into an online-only conference. Facebook’s F8 developer conference and the Microsoft MVP Global Summit were canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
So far, there have been over 113,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 around the world, and 4,015 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.
