      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Audacious and aspirational, Dickinson's bold blend of period-drama and millennial milieu definitely won't be for all, but those looking to break free from the doldrums of their viewing life may find some kind of hope in its singular vision.

Denise B This show is unbelievably entertaining. Meshing (embellished) history with present day themes and music and language as well as dreamlike imagery and outstanding acting , it has not ceased to put a smile on my face and keeps me wanting more . I wish it would never end. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Ryoga M I watched on May 11,2022 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/29/23 Full Review Joo V Creative, original, and fun. The way they play with time past and present is incredible, the actors are great, and Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Hunt have overwhelming chemistry together. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/11/23 Full Review Suzanne B Was so amazingly done and sooo incredibly entertaining, enjoyable, creative that I actually started to read Emily's poems! Fascinating character and characters in the show! I wish more shows can be a breath of fresh air like this, that has everything in it! Creativeness, comedy, sex, family drama, mental illness, etc! I'm sad it's over but has opened my eyes the the mind and incredible poetry of Emily. I used to loathe poems but her words were off the cuff and remarkable. Profound. This show touched my heart in every way! It enlightened me to a whole piece of history I never knew about. If all shows depicting historical characters as colorful and creative as this, it's a wonderful way to learn. I'll rewatch this show again as that is how enormous and impactful it was. Like Ted Lasso. These 2 shows are GENIUS!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/18/23 Full Review KM A So badly done. The modern music is jarring and takes me out of the time period. Unwatchable. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/16/23 Full Review Leyla Maria B Love this show! Found the history of Emily Dickinson and her work really interesting. As someone who's personally not really a fan of the movies/shows set in old times (1800-1900s) they made it a fun watch with the modern language and music. I really haven't seen such a well made show in a long time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Sally Autostraddle I’m really glad this show exists, and that it’s been renewed for a second season. Apr 12, 2022 Full Review Alison Herman The Ringer At first blush, Dickinson seemed to fall into this fun, if flippant, genre: a 19th-century poet who speaks in Gen Z slang, played by a starlet and part-time pop star? Why not! There were worse ways for Apple to attract attention... Dec 28, 2021 Full Review Anna Leszkiewicz New Statesman The show deliberately leans in to flamboyant anachronisms and jarring contradictions. Dec 19, 2019 Full Review Katherine Singh Refinery29 Whether or not Emily and Sue were actually lovers IRL remains up for debate, but the series paints their relationship as the true ship of the series, lovingly depicting their emotional and physical intimacy in a way that's still rare to see on TV. Oct 3, 2022 Full Review Therese Lacson Nerdophiles Dickinson is imperfect but captures the spirit of being young in a coming-of-age story that is delivered in a tone that is relatable to a younger audience. Mar 3, 2021 Full Review Laura Fernández El Pais (Spain) Alena Smith launched the punk and spectacular cathartic of a baroque show that has something of the expansive cinema and deliciously camp of Baz Luhrmann, Dickinson.
