Looks like Apple finally updated their page with the advent of the Mojave PB :D (its interesting how they say "including" I wonder if they plan to add more options? also I guess apple officially supports the use of PC cards in 5,1s now... esp as the RX 560 is not supported as an eGPU with OS X)

I’d like to know how we’re gonna do firmware updates with these two suggested cards…

Exciting news. The RX 580 lives on!

im curious if they finally enabled 5GTs/PCIe 2.0 as well?

I dont own an RX 580/RX 560 nor can I afford to buy one sadly,

so if anyone has one installed in their system it would be interesting to see what Mojave makes of it all?

I just got my first round of Volta GPUs. Not going into Apples, but into ProLiants with 2800 watt power supplies. (Went cheap with TITAN V cards - will do the full deployment with Teslas if the TITAN V cards are promising.)

Ladies ladies

can we not derail yet another thread please?

anyways

I wonder if this recommend list is why Mojave DP2 complained that i did not have metal video card even though I did? (my HD 7950)

Complained where? At Mac App Store download check? When installed, my 7870 is recognised as Metal supported card.

if you Open the DP2 app in 10.13.5 at least, ya get this:

DP2 itself however runs fine on my MP5,1 (though I did notice that the GUI would hard lock up from time to time)

Ah, thx.

When I installed DP2 here, I did via startosinstall on a HFS SSD. I don't have any newer GPU than R9-380, so I can't test if any of supported cards makes any difference on the Mojave installer.

R9 380 is a much newer GCN 3.0 Tonga based card so it would still be interesting to see what Mojave/the installer makes of that

(im also curious does OS X 10.13.4+ ID it properly like it does Polaris/Vega PC cards?)

It's on my son's gaming PC, I last checked with early 10.13 and I don't exactly remember what System Profiler showed at the time. I can check it later on my Mac Pro.

I won’t do that if the card still has warranty. And the real world difference is so tiny anyway.

And one of the big problem is if you mod the card. And you hit some glitches. There will be no way to tell if it’s due to bad driver, or you damaged the card during the mod.

The RX580’s driver support is not that mature yet. Its situation is a bit different than the traditional HD7xxx resistor mod.

Yeah I have many questions like that too...

hopefully some more details come out as the betas progress...

Either the support documentation will say something about switching your graphics cards for Boot ROM updates, or (if we're lucky) they're planning on releasing a tool or utility along with EFI firmware for those two mentioned graphic cards.

Very exciting, could pave the way for new GPU/EFI hacking.

would not do what?

im referring to/asking if they enabled it in software not via a hardware mod :)

PS I would imagine the Ellesmere driver is pretty mature at this point seeing as couple iMac Models use that GPU, as well as the RX 580 being officially supported by Apple for eGPU stuff :)

What does all this mean for MVC nVidia cards & Mojave? Has anyone successfully tested Mojave with a MVC GPU?

Sorry to be so daft, but in daily computer chores (office, inet browsing, video playback, not editing/rendering) would I notice any benefits with a 580 that my 7970 is weak on?

"Recommended Metal-capable GPU" sounds sort of scary. Dows that include Nvidia. I'm assuming it does:oops:
