Subject: Thank YOU SO VERY MUCH - Simple & Awesome - and I learnt along the way.
It took a little bit of digging around in my “broken memory” about “Flashing” and “Disk Utility” but they are BOTH down to my neurological and memory - “MY challenges” not that of this “patiently stepped process” or how it is done. Also thank you to some of the positive commenters, as they also helped guide me in the process (including my first ever use of BalenaEtcher) to create a “bootable USB DRIVE for Snow Leopard” for my OLD but ORIGINAL Silver Alluminium “Unibody” MacBook - not Pro - not Air - just MacBook…it is slowly loading as I type this on my iPad. BIG Gratitude & again THANKS to the people at INTERNET ARCHIVE. ANY of the NEGATIVE COMMENTS are quite honestly (I am guessing - and without being rude) from people who WANT instant gratification of the type that would come from having (not losing in my case) the Snow Leopard install disk itself. All I can say is if you are one of “those” people, have the money but no patience to look just a “little bit under the hood” & want the 100% surety that comes with a standard “old school installer disk” installation then - GO AND BUY THE DISK - Online SECOND HAND - it is available, though as I found clearly stated - no longer thru Apple anymore.

Subject: Missing partition table?
Subject: Missing partition table?
I downloaded this to use with an old Macbook that had lost its hard drive. When I selected the file to flash, BalenaEtcher told me "Missing partition table. It looks like this is not a bootable image. The image does not appear to contain a partition table, and might not be recognized or bootable by your device." I flashed it anyway, plugged it into the Macbook, and then it didn't show up in the boot menu when I pressed Option during startup. (The only option that appeared was the other hard drive I had inside it, which for some reason appeared as "Windows" despite having ZorinOS Lite on it.) Does anyone know why it isn't working, and how I could add that partition table it's apparently missing?

I read a lot of instructions in the comments here about how to get this onto a bootable USB stick and none of them worked. I would get errors in Disk Utitlity that the source validation failed. I found another article that said to get a program called Belana Etcher and it worked great. So, my working procedure to get this image on a bootbale USB drive was:
1) Format the USB stick as FAT32 with Disk Utitlity
2) Run Belana Etcher and select the .ISO from this page and click go.
That's it! Pop the USB drive in and it pops up and Mac OS thinks it's a snow leopard DVD!

Used this to install Snow Leopard in Parallels (I run Catalina Host so 32 bit Mac apps are broken). Never had to use it until recently when I found an app I couldn't run on Catalina or run an equivalent Windows (Boot Camp) version of. Popped this into Parallels and it worked like a dream.

Subject: Just a quick Tip
If you download this on a Mac, make sure and first allow disk utility to have Full Disk Access in Settings, Security and Privacy, Privacy. Then, format your USB as MBR/Extended Journaled. Finally, write/restore the image to the USB. If you do it right, the entire contents of the DVD are written to the USB. Now, boot from it via Option Key. On a windows machine, you may have to use Paragon HFS+ or Transmac to see everything.

I used this ISO to create a bootable USB OSX installer from Windows. I used Belena Etcher to create a bootable USB and when I booted it on the Mac it crashed halfway through the install. I then tried creating the bootable USB with TransMac on Windows and the installer worked on the Mac after that. Your millage may vary with this.

Tried to install with the disk that I’d purchased years ago from Apple. Alas, time and rough-handling took its toll, and a little-but-big-enough scratch on the disk prevented it from completing.
Since that failure rendered the machine unable to boot, I had to revert to Leopard with a disk I’d kept in a safer spot. This image allowed me to complete the upgrade.
(Yes, I had to create a bootable USB drive first, but that only required a web search and a bit of tinkering on the Terminal, which was child’s play after having to erase, reformat, and start from scratch.)

This is an ISO image of Snow Leopard for Mac
You either need to burn it as an ISO image onto a double layer DVD or Create a Bootable USB Stick from it - both easy operations
Those saying it is just a windows file clearly do not understand how installation media works
I have created a DVD from it and installed it - it works

I am downloading this file but despite extensive research on the web, I am still unsure how to make a usable installation disk! Do I simply copy this to an SD card? Or do I have to burn this image to a DVD and use that route? I know a bit about these matters, but this problem - how to make a usable installation 'disk' - is very frustrating! Can anyone offer me some enlightenment?

Subject: To everyone who says there are only Windows drivers.
Subject: To everyone who says there are only Windows drivers.
No. Basically, older Mac OS X CD's have two main partitions. One with the main install (HFS+) and another one with Boot Camp drivers for Windows (FAT32 or just a standard CD format). If you look in the ISO or DMG in the archive.org explorer, it can't read HFS+, only the standard, FAT32 or CD format. That's why it seems like there are only Windows drivers. Download it and mount it in a macOS installation, and you will see the actual Install disc, or try to boot from it.
So, don't believe anyone who says there are only Windows drivers, they are completely incorrect.

I tried to rip my own DVD, and it looks the same as this. There's one partition that only Windows will see, ISO9660 with Boot Camp support on it. There's much more though, that will only be visible on a Mac.

This is indeed the entire retail Snow Leopard disc - people saying it only includes drivers must be mounting the ISO9660 partition, which occupies only a small part of the disc and does indeed contain Boot Camp drivers!

I was happy to find this because I have misplaced my actual Snow Leopard installation DVD somewhere... But I downloaded this, only to find that it is not, in fact, an image of the actual Snow Leopard installation DVD. Other reivewers have commented on the contents - but for the purpose I was hoping to use it for - creating a DVD to boot a Mac from and install Snow Leopard, like I used to be able to do with my now-misplaced original DVD, this performs no useful function for me.

Thanks for this amazing DVD.
I was given a mid-2007 iMac 7,1, without an operating system on it in 2020. I tried many approaches online, but finally here saves me. I burned the DVD to a USB thumb drive and boot it alive.
I donate 5 dollars. Thank you the uploader again.

Just keep in mind that the download is an (iso) and you will obviously need to use some software or the terminal to make a bootable USB.
Remember to install "Rosetta" if you don't plan to move up to later macOS versions. It will give you ability to run PowerPc apps.

Snow Leopard is the gateway to update your Mac to a newer operating system via Apple Purchases.
Having seen the negative reviews, I thought I'd give it a go and see what happens . . . nothing to lose.
Well, imagine my surprise when I copied the iso to a USB stick, stuck it into my 2008 MacBook Pro and it worked beautifully.
So despite the negative comments, this has been a 100% success.
Thank you.

Don't believe the below reviews, this DVD is meant for Macintosh systems and cannot be read from a system running Windows, it doesn't work for them due to the installer's file system being HFS+, a file system that Windows cannot understand.
