I got the 14 Pro Max yesterday and straight away I noticed the camera app is really slow to load, it takes ages to activate the camera.
Is anyone else having this problem? I’ve done a factory reset, and updated to 16.0.1 but the problem is still there.

Runs and opens fine for me. Same as on my 13pm. You might have a hardware issue.

ProRaw doesn’t change anything.

No, proraw is off. Ugh, looks like I’ll have to take it back to the store.

I have the same issue with my iPhone 14 Pro (non Max). When restarting the phone and starting the camera app the camera turns on immediately. After closing and opening the camera app it always takes 4 - 5 seconds for the camera to turn on. I've tested other apps using the camera and there it it turns on instantly. I assume this is a SW bug.

Yeah, I’m exactly the same! If you force close the camera app and then reopen it, the camera loads instantly, it’s just if you keep the app running in the background. It also doesn’t seem to be affecting the front facing camera, just the rear cameras. Using the camera in any other app is not affected.

I have the exact same issue with my iPhone 14 Pro. I think it may be a software-related issue rather than a hardware problem. Apps using the camera work just fine. It's just Apple's own camera app for me.

I have the same problem as well… initially I thought it’s software but the camera shakes rapidly distorting the image - see images.

You can also hear the camera make a buzzing noise, it’s definitely a faulty OIS sensor! Be careful… you may have the same problem as me.

Funnily enough this issue only happens when I enter the camera in WhatsApp… I’m still getting the 5 seconds lag on the Apple stock camera app though.

I’ve already called my network provider and they are arranging an exchange.

There is no shaking happening when I open the camera on my devices. I also can’t hear any noise coming from the camera. I still believe it may be a software issue on my end

Make sure your case doesn’t have any magnets in it. Try it without a case on to eliminate any possibilities

Do you get the issue when you access the camera on WhatsApp?

No, there is no distortion whatsoever for me (in any app using the camera including WhatsApp). The only issue I am facing is the stock camera App taking a few seconds to initialize

No issues with camera distortion for me either, just seems to be the camera app specifically when initialising the rear cameras.

No problems when accessing the camera on WhatsApp, literally just the iOS camera app, very odd.

I have already tried to reset the iPhone but that did not resolve the issue. I think it must be some sort of software issue which I hope they are going to fix in a future release of iOS 16.

Deffo software bug. I have it on my 14pro. However I do notice a almost static type noise coming from the lens area when camera app is on

Went to the Apple Store today and they basically said they hadn’t had anyone come in with the same issue (not too surprising as the phone has only been out since Friday) and none of the other in store units had the same issue. They were pretty adamant it was a software issue, but they couldn’t explain why the issue couldn’t be replicated on the other units (which you would expect if it was a problem with iOS 16). I’ve booked a Genius Bar appointment for them to look into the issue properly so fingers crossed.

True, just weird that a software problem would be affecting a small portion of handsets and not others, it doesn’t seem to be a widely reported issue among early adopters of the phone.

Yeah you’re right. That’s absolutely instantaneous for me. Photos modes are causing the issue

I’ve just set up my other half’s 14pro on 16.0 and camera app is fine. Now updating to 16.0.1 to see if that’s the issue.

I upgraded to 16.0.1 before and the issue is still there unfortunately.
